Tenchijin Ryaku No Maki Heaven, Earth and Man Strategy Book

These techniques comprise the Kihon Kata of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. Kata are taken from all the nine schools to compile this book, and this forms the basis of instruction for all students. The Tenchijin Ryaku No Maki was formulated by Masaaki Hatsumi, 34th Soke of Togakure Ryu Ninjutsu and founder of the Bujinkan. This is a listing of the lessons offered in Hatsumi Sensei’s book: Togakure Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu, long considered the Bujinkan Dojo Instructor’s Manual. Before the Taijutsu book came into existance, there was a densho version (no longer available from Hatsumi-soke). Though these two items have similar contents, together with several Quest Videos and training at Tai Kai and Hombu, they form a complete picture of the nature of Bujinkan Budo Taijuts

Notes form Anthony Lucas, Shihan on Training:

My focus and guidence is on the kihon waza, or basic techniques and kihon (principles of distance, angles and timing). The idea is to acheive balance and control in the mindset. Cultivating the spirit, mind and body is the aim for all intergrated practices. Personal training with Anthony Lucas, is a great opportunity to get one on one personal training. You can ask freely any questions you have and will not get any negative responses. Anthony believes everyone has talent and special abilities. His purpose is to encourage you to call on a portion of yourself, the better half persay, and become the person your ment to be. Basically, Anthony does not profess or claim to know it all and convince anyone or most importantly himself that there is only ONE way. Mainly, it’s his experience where he draws his knowledge and wisdom. The theme for his training or that of any one of the Koteki Dojo’s are based from the material found in the first two books of the Tenchijin Ryaku no Maki, or Scrolls of Heaven, Earth & Man. For those that don’t know, the Tenchijin is the instructors manual created by Hatsumi Soke in the 1970s. This book is made of three distinct sections, concentrating on:

Ten Ryaku no Maki (Scroll of Heaven): Rolling, breakfalling, leaping, sanshin no kata, kihon happo no kata, kamae, muto dori and the use of various fists as adaptive weapons.

Chi Ryaku no Maki (Scroll of Earth): Hand and body escapes, hand locking and restraints, kneeling techniques, locking techniques, throwing techniques, strangling techniques

Jin Ryaku no Maki (Scroll of Man): various kata taken from the nine schools taught in the Bujinkan.

Note: The TenChiJin Ryaku no maki was taught to me by Noguchi sensei while in Japan. There are many books (TCJ) out there as there are many Bujinkan instructors.  At the beginning of the year of 2009, Hatsumi Sensei said we  as a whole need to work on “taijutsu” & “Ken” more. As I understand, the Ten Chi Jin Ryaku no Maki is the beginning, starting point or jumping off place of new and exciting discoveries.

Our intention is to live a healthy life, in a harmonious society, cultural connections and in harmony with the nature and in the way of the warriors.

The members must follow the “Bufu Ikkan” (the principles and the way of the warrior every day in life) for selfpreservation, natural justice and happiness

through martial arts and martial way.

The tradition of the Bujinkan recognizes nature and the universality of all human life, and is aware of that which flows naturally between the two parts:

•”The secret principle of Taijutsu is to know the foundations of peace.

•To study is the path to the immovable heart (fudoshin).”

The training philosophy of the Bujinkan Dojo is to live healthy a life, without harming society, by cultvating the mutual relationship with nature and mankind through the martial ways and by following the spirit of Bufu Ikkan (Martial Wind as inspiration)  and Fudoshin (Immovable heart/spirit) .  Through the spirit of buyu (Martial Friends), students, family, friends come together with warrior heart; they learn to better themselves through training, studying, and friendship.  It evinces the glory of the warrior virtue and embodies both loyal and brotherly love.

The students focus on training and studying with the motto “Shinkin Haramitsu Daikomyo” (to learn from experiences good or bad from inside the dojo or outside the dojo, from the world around they; because every encounter (is Scared) and could present the a potential key to perfection of the great universal enlightenment we seek.”  Student work together towards becoming Tatsujin (a fully developed human being).
